Paint Correction

What is paint correction?

Paint correction is the process of removing imperfections such as marring, scratches, swirls, water spots, chemical etching, and other defects using a range of different polishers, pads, and abrasives to “cut” away a microscopic layer of clear coat to reveal a new, glossy and shiny surface.

Do I need paint correction?

One important thing to remember when considering paint correction is that the clear coat on your car is finite, the thickness of clear coat on most brand new vehicles ranges from 35 – 50 microns. that’s only 0.035 – 0.050 millimetres thick. while that may seem minute it’s also worth noting that even the most aggressive compounding, if done correctly,  typically removes less than 10 microns. In most cases a 2 or 3 step correction may remove around 5 microns.

Our approach is to use the least aggressive method possible and retain as much of the clear coat as possible because once it’s gone, it’s gone.

Here’s a list of things to consider if you’re thinking about paint correction

  • How often does my car get washed?
  • Has it been polished/corrected before?
  • Is my car a daily driver or weekender?
  • How old is my car?
